5 Beginner SEO Tips To Optimize Blog For Search Engines
If you’re into serious blogging or you’ve been blogging for a while, you would most probably have heard the acronym “SEO”. And some of you may already know how to optimize your blog through SEO for getting free targeted web traffic from major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.
For those who either never heard of or have totally no idea what is it, SEO in short stands for Search Engine Optimization.
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is basically a set of methodologies, strategies and techniques that website owners use to to improve the visibility or ranking of their websites/blogs in search engines results page based on particular keywords. Just imagine your blog posts are appearing in the first page of Google Search results page for keywords like “Make Money Online”.
If you want people to find you through search engines, it is very important to write your blog posts with SEO in mind. A good SEO will help search engine spiders/robots crawl to your blog much more effectively, hence helping your blog get indexed faster by search engines.
This blog post is aimed at helping those of you who are pretty new to SEO. And here are 5 basic SEO tips for beginners:
Targeting the right keyword is the master key to SEO success. So, please ensure you know how to do the keyword research. There are several good free keyword research tools on the Internet that you can use to develop a best list of targeted keywords for your blog . For the start, I’d suggest you to begin with a FREE Google keyword tool called Google AdWords: Keyword Tool.
2. Having keywords in title tag
The title tag is one of the most important factors how a search engine would rank your blog page because it appears in search engine results page. The title tag is actually taken from the blog post title. Hence, make sure each post title of your blog that not only catches people’s attention, but also have the shorlisted keywords in it to attract search engine spiders.
3. Having keywords in meta description tag
The meta description will be showing in search engine results page together with your blog post title. Hence, it’s also very important to have a keyword-rich description in meta description tag for each blog post. However, as a warning, you shouldn’t just fill your meta description tag with all the targeted keywords that you shortlisted because the visitors will not understand what your page is about. If you want the visitors to click on it and visit your blog, make sure the meta description is readable friendly.
4. Having keywords in meta keywords tag
The meta keywords tag is where you can list all the targeted keywords you shortlisted to provide search engines with additional information about your blog pages. Keep in mind that there shouldn’t have any duplication of keywords in meta keywords tag, otherwise there may be a possibility that your blog be classified as “spam” by search engines.
5. Having keyword-rich content but with accepted keyword density
Of course, I’m not asking you to optimize your blog content to the extend where your post is full of targeted keywords. You should always write your blog post with readers in mind as well. Keep in mind that the targeted keywords should not be overused or repeated with every other word on every line. This is also to prevent your blog from being categorized as an artificial or spam site. The accepted standard for keyword density should be between 3% and 5%.
