Do you find it hard to generate content for your blog post?

In fact, I’ve ever asked this question in BlogCatalog Discussion forum: “What is the hardest part in blogging?” And guess what, many have also seen content generation as one of the major problems in blogging.

Content generation and writing are the two key components of any blog post. If you can’t clearly express and translate your thoughts and ideas in writing, it is going to be very difficult to attract your first time visitors to come back and read your blog again because they don’t clearly understand what the objective of your blog is, possibly including search engine spiders or crawlers.

I hope this article will be a useful guide especially for rookie bloggers on how to generate content for their blogs.

Basically, there are 4 different types of articles you can write for your blog post:

1. Tips-Based Article

I love writing tips-based articles and 80% of my blog posts would be tips-based. So what is a Tips-based article? Tips-based article is a type of article which you can write to provide your readers with useful tips on a particular niche topic of interest for making their life better, happier or easier. For example, “9 Tips To Help Boost Your Child’s Self-Esteem” is a tips-based article that you may want to write in parenting blog.

For tips-based article, you can also explain tips in a sequential step-by-step manner on how to do certain thing. For example, in one of my blog posts, I show my readers on how to facelift a FeedBurner Email Subscription Form in 5 easy steps.

2. Facts-Based Article

Facts-based article is all about facts and you can use it to inform or increase the knowledge of your readers through the use of proven facts in its content. For example, “Is your child right or left brained dominant?” can be an interesting facts-based article for a parenting blog.

When you write a facts-based article, it’s highly recommended to include reliable references to back up the facts you use, especially those involving medical or scientific information. Having in-line references from credible sources will definitely help to increase the credibility of your article.

3. Recommendation Article

A recommendation article is usually written by marketers to review and promote a product or service. Therefore, the contents of the article you write have to be informative and reader-friendly.

It’s important to take note that when it comes to reviewing a product or service is that you don’t have to only mention the positive aspects. Your potential customers would like to hear some of the things that you don’t like about the product or service as well. Doing this will also help to build your credibility with readers.

You can check out my recent recommendation article: Atomic Blogging 3.0 – Guide To Be A ProBlogger

Also, please pay close attention to new The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules that went into effect on Decemeber 1, 2009. The new FTC regulations say that blog authors must now disclose if they’re being paid to review and promote a product online.

Click here if you want to know more about FTC regulations.

4. Personal Experience Article

Lastly, this type of article is all about your own story and personal experience that you had or somebody else had that relates to your blog niche, as well as readers’ interest.

Today, Internet is flooded with contents and you can find articles on almost any topics you can think of. So, writing personal experience article by injecting your personality into it will help to set yourself apart from others and build a closer relationship with your readers.

In fact, whatever type of articles you write, it can be tips-based, facts-based or recommendation article, it’s always good to have your own personal experience and personality in it. The basic idea behind is to let your readers know that there’s an actual person writing the article.

What if you don’t have good writing skills or don’t have much time to generate content for your blog?

You may want to consider the following options:

Option #1: Source for PLR articles

PLR articles are usually written by a ghostwriter and then sold to several website or blog owners. Another words, you and a limited number of other website owners have the rights to re-edit, re-brand and claim as your own written articles, without being required to give anyone else credit for writing the articles.

If you want to know more about PLR articles, please read this article: FAQ Interview With PLR Expert Nicole Dean.

Option #2: Hire a Ghostwriter

If you are on a strict budget, you can hire students who are good in writing to do the work for you. If not, it’s highly recommended to hire a professional freelance writer from GetAFreelancer.com, Elance.com or ScriptLance.com.
