Facebook vs Twitter – Pros And Cons

What do you think the main differences between Facebook and Twitter are?

Well, I know some of you might have already known the differences if you are active on both. If you have not been using these 2 social networking tools actively, it is good to understand the differences between them right now.

By knowing the pros and cons of each, you will understand their differences better. Below are the Pros and Cons of both Facebook and Twitter that I found in Accountants Today Magazine, August 2009 and would like to share with you guys here.

Facebook Pros:

Most users can quickly grasp the value of connecting with friends, family and established contacts; some people report they use Facebook instead of email and IM.

More emphasis on deep connections with others vs. who has the most connections.

Huge, rapidly growing installed user base.

Applications galore; find people, make connections, email, instant messaging, image/video sharing, etc.

Facebook Cons:

Requires investment of time to realise sustained benefit.

More difficult to navigate and update.

Less immediate responses; unless you stay logged on continuously.

Requires a user to allow others to connect.

Twitter Pros:

Easy to navigate and update, link to and promote anything.

Reach far beyond your inner circle of friends.

Anyone can follow anyone else unless blocked.

You don’t have to be logged in to get updates; you can just use an RSS reader.

Pure communication tool; rapid responsiveness.

Twitter Cons:

Limited to 140 characters per update.

Limited functionality; find people, send brief messages, direct replies.

Not everyone will find it immediately useful.

Easily abused for spam.

Facebook or Twitter, Which Social Networking Site Should I Use?

Do you notice that more and more people are jumping on the social networking bandwagon and discussing about Facebook or Twitter these days?

These are the common questions my friends are asking and discussing recently:

“Which Social Networking site should I use? Facebook or Twitter?”

“Which Social Networking tool is better? Twitter or Facebook?”

“I already have Facebook. Why should I use Twitter?”

“Should I close my Facebook account and switch to Twitter?”

“Will Twitter be killed by Facebook?”

Well, i don’t really see much value in comparing Facebook and Twitter. They are just merely communication tools that are targeted at different groups of people and different purposes. It’s kind of silly comparing them because it’s like comparing an apple to an orange.

Not sure what I mean? Don’t worry! Here is an interesting video that explains how Facebook and Twitter can be used to complement each other rather than compete with each other.

Have you seriously started using Twitter for your business yet? If not, now it’s the time to get serious with Twitter.

As of late, Twitter – the social networking site that revolutionized the concept of micro-blogging, has taken the world by storm, with its ability to attract 5 to 10 thousands people every month to its social networking site to register new Twitter account. Not only that, more and more large organizations and business people are also started to use Twitter as a communication platform to connect with people worldwide for bringing in new customers.

Dell is a great example of a large corporate organization which has successfully utilized social networking tool Twitter to bring in few million dollars in revenue by selling products to its Twitter followers. While for business people, it would be Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, who has joined the Twitter phenomenon recently on January 19, 2010 at twitter.com/BillGates. At this point of writing, he has already attracted 438,322 followers.

Twitter, which enforces a 140-character limit on every message, is now the second most important social networking service behind Facebook.

However, there are certain groups of people still don’t see the benefits and values in using Twitter especially when they are already ‘Facebook users’ themselves.
